Thyroid gland synthesize, store and secrete two hormones. Thyroxin and tri-iodo thyroxin; iodine is an essential constitution of these hormones. The decreased function of thyroid gland is called hypothyroidism. The main symptoms are oedema, weight gain and thickening of skin.
