Vending machines: A
Brief History
|
Vending machines
are continuing to evolve, becoming more
computerized and efficient. Some are now
connected via telephone lines to
computers in sales offices, making it
possible for the company to download
information in an instant, learning, for
example, how much inventory remains in
each machine. This innovation has
rationalized shipping, restocking, and
product selection. Newer
models save energy and will hopefully
help in the effort to halt global warming.
The energy-saving "Eco-vender"
has become the leading dispenser of non-alcoholic
beverages. Because it can maintain cold
temperatures longer, even during the
summer, it turns off its refrigeration
unit during peak hours, reducing
electricity consumption by 10 to 15% over
conventional models. The vending machine
of the 21st century will surely save more
energy and resources, and offer even more
attractions.
