Hiding and not seeking
A child is counting,
One-two-three,
Who is that?
Oh I see now,
It’s me!
I’m playing,
Playing an old forgotten game
Of hiding and seeking
Long gone away friends,
But wait, who is playing
With my happy dream
Hello? Four-five-six
You hear me right?
I know you are probably
Hiding in the trees
Burrowed away in a hollow hole.
Seven-eight-nine
Where have they gone?
So why am I frightened
That I won’t find what
I am seeking for in the darkness?!
Ten! Wait a minute...
A shadow I saw
Running into the tree
Ah-ha I’ve found you,
No security for
You thought I wouldn’t find you!
Hey, this is my game
I never lost as a kid, so
I reached out to tag
My silly companion
But grabbed only air
What has gone wrong?
No one was there
I looked down and saw my own shadow
I counted and sought
But who was doing the hiding?
And who is it that is running from me?
I counted it right...
Or so I perceived.
