"I need a job, where's God?"
(Parent enters, sits at table, sighs, heavily. Teen enters, reading a magazine, listening to music, or the like. Notices parent.)
Teen: Oh, hi, [mom/dad]. You okay?
Parent: Oh, you know. I'm just stressed out about trying to find a job.
Teen: (Patiently, like they've heard it before and aren't worried) Don't worry, didn't you just go for that interview at BASF[or other appropriate company]?
Parent: Yeah, I did, and it would be the perfect job for me: flexible hours, good pay and benefits.... I know I'm well qualified, but what if they hire someone else? That's what happened with all the other ones.
Teen: (clearly getting annoyed at parent's worrying) Look, don't sweat it. Maybe you'll hear something today.
Parent: Has the mail come yet?
Teen: (relieved for an excuse to get away) I don't know....I'll go check. (Exits)
Parent: (to himself) I don't understand. God promises that He will take care of His people... but here I am, unemployment has almost run out, I can't get a job, and I have a child to support. So what am I supposed to do? Where are you, Lord? (Teen re-enters)
Teen: (carrying mail) Here it is. (musing to himself) bills, junk mail...OOH! a letter for me! I wonder who it's from? (looks at letter)
Parent: You can look at that later...would you see if there's anything else for me?
Teen: Hang on a minute, I'm getting there. (continues flipping through the mail) Well, here's a letter from BASF...(gives a hopeful look)
Parent: (Deep sigh) Well, here goes nothing... (rips open letter)
