"Whose Life Is It Anyway?"
This piece is intended to be done as a reader's theater. Each line overlaps the beginning of the next person's line, and they are intended to be spoken overlapping. Person 1 is a teenager rebelling against his/her parents, person 2 has a past history of drug and alcohol use, and person 3 is struggling with a past abortion.
1: I just want them to leave me alone! My parents are always on my case! All they ever want is...
2:...ever wanted was to be happy. I thought I could find it anywhere I wanted, it wasn't anyone else's business. I tried all sorts of things...
3:...things were so stressful, after I had the abortion. When I finally realized what i had done, it was too late....
2:...too late to fix my life. I had done so many drugs, my life was a wreck....
3:...wrecked my life and destroyed my child's, too. I never even knew if it was a boy or a girl....
1:...girls should be neat and proper, my parents keep telling me. Do this, do that! They don't have a clue...
2:...a clue where my life was headed. At first, I thought I could handle it, but then the drugs took control. I had thought, this is my life, I can do whatever I want with it.
3: It seemed so innocent at the time. A quick fix and it would be all over. Everyone told me, it's your life, it's your body, you can do whatever you want with it.
1: It's like they think they can run my life! Stay out! It's my life!
