I Peter 2:2
As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that ye may grow by it

When a baby is born into our world, this is typically what happens.

      1. He takes his first life giving breath.
      2. He cries out.
      3. He eats.
      4. He bonds with his mother.
      5. He is bathed.
      6. He begins to respond to the world around him.
      7. He learns the language of his parents.
      8. He makes friends, and reaches out to others.

As a new babe in Christ, we can use this analogy to help us properly grow.

1. We take our first life giving breath.
We breathe in the salvation that God offers us through Jesus Christ. If you have not done this yet, then you need to visit the previous page to learn how to do it.
Job 33:4
The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

2. We cry out.
We open our mouth and in very simple terms, tell the world that we are saved. We don't need to go into some great theological discussion on it, nor do we need to argue with people about it. We just need to be a witness to what Christ has done for us, and can do for others.
Acts 1:8b
...and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria,
and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

3. We eat.
New Christians need to eat. Of course, a new christian can't handle difficult concepts yet, just as a new earthly baby can't digest adult food. But basic christian concepts should be learned right away. Have a daily devotional. And memorize God's word. To better understand why it is vital to read God's Word, go here. To get a good starting list of scriptures to memorize, go to Memorizing God's Word and copy down the scriptures listed there.

4. We bond with our mother.
We as new Christians need to become involved in our church and its ministries. Don't try to take on more than you can handle, but being 'about our Fathers business' is essential.
Hebrews 10:25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another,
and somuch the more as ye see the day approaching.

5. We are bathed.
It is important soon after your salvation to be baptized. Baptism does not save you, any more than a wedding ring makes a person married. It is simply a symbol of your union with Christ. But it is an important step in your growth.
Matthew 3:13-17 speaks of Jesus' babtismal experience.

6. We begin to respond to the world around us.
As we grow in Christ, we begin to see with HIS eyes. As we learn more about Him, we understand more about our fellow man and ourselves. We tend to respond in a godly manner to those around us.

7. We learn the language of our parents.
Simply put, we learn scriptures. The more scriptures we know, the better we can conduct our lives, and our responses to those we come in contact with.

8. We make friends and reach out to others.
We develop close ties with our brothers and sisters in the Lord, and we reach out to those who are not Christians, and share the wonderful news of what Christ has done for us, and what He can do for them.
We also learn to give of ourselves. Tithing to the Church is only one aspect of giving. Giving of your talents, your time, and your knowledge of salvation are all important parts of healthy Christian living.
Encourage one another.
I Thessalonioans 5:11
Wherefore, comfort yourselves toegether, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

It is wise if you can find one or two very close friends who will help you in your Christian walk.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor; For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to lift him up."

Just remember that living for Christ is not always an easy thing to do. But it will always be fulfilling, and very rewarding. May God bless you on your journey to a closer walk with Him.
