Tribulation Personalities

Holy Spirit - Contrary to some, the Holy Spirit will not be removed when the church is raptured. He will instead (it would seem) perform a ministry similar to his work in the Old Testament. At any rate, his presence will be felt in the tribulation, as indicated by the prophet Joel (See Joel 2:28, 30-32).

The Devil-"Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time" (Rev. 12:12).

Two special (Old Testament?) witnesses - "And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth" (Rev. 11:3).

The antichrist - "And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High..." (Dan. 7:25)

"And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above everey god, and shall speak...things against the God of gods..." (Dan. 11:36)

"And I stood uon the sand of the sea and saw a beast rise up out of the sea...And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion; and the dragon gave him his power...and great authority...And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God..." (Rev. 13:1,2,6).

The false prophet - "And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth..." (Rev. 13:11).

A multitude of specialized angels - Angels have been employed throughout the Bible to perform God's work, but at no other time will they be as busy as during the tribulation.

144,000 Israelite preachers - The Bible teaches that the 144,000 will consist of 12,000 saved and commissioned preachers from each of the twelve tribes of Israel (Rev. 7).

An army of locust demons from the bottomless pit - "The locusts looked like horses armored for battle. The had what looked like golden crowns on their heads, and their faces looked like men's. Their hair was long like women's, and their teeth were those of lions. They wore breastplates that seemed to be of iron, and their wings roared like an army of chariots rushing into battle. They had stinging tails like scorpions, and their power to hurt, given to them for five months, was in their tails" (Rev. 9:7-10, TLB).

An army of horse-and-rider demons from the Eurphrates River - "I saw their horses spread out before me in my vision; their riders wore fiery-red breastplates, though some were sky-blue and others yellow. The horses' heads looked much like lions', and smoke and fire and flaming sulphur billowed from their mouths, killing one-third of all mankind. Their power of death was not only in their mouths, but in their tails as well, for their tails were similar to serpents' head that struck and bit with fatal wounds" (Rev. 9:17-19, TLB).

This hellish demonic army will number 200 million strong (Rev. 9:16).

Three evil spirits - "And I saw three evil spirits disguised as frogs leap fro the mouth of the Dragon, the Creature, and his False Prophet. These miracle-working demons conferred with all the rulers of the world to gather them for battle against the Lord on that great coming Judgment Day of God Almighty" (Rev. 16:13,14, TLB).

A cruel, power-mad ruler from the north - The leader (Gog) of Rosh (Russia) will send troops to invade Israel in the latter days (Ezek. 38:8). That invasion will be aided by various allies of Rosh (Ezek. 38:5,6), such as Iran (Persia), South Africa (Ethiopia), North Africa (Libya), Eastern Europe (Gomer), and Southern Russia (Togarmah).

A persecuted woman - "And there appeared a great wonder in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and themoon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars" (Rev. 12:1).

This is the great nation of Israel whom the Messiah was born out of. God will hide a third of Israel from Satan's wrath for three and a half years (Rev. 12:6,14).

A vile harlot - The Great Prostitute that will infect the nations of the world with her immorality (Rev. 17:1-6). This is known as the False Church. The churches all over the world (not the Christian church taken up in the rapture) will form together to make a one-world faith. Many will fall prey to this deception led by the False Prophet. This apostate church will be hated by the kings of the earth (Rev. 17:16).

An arrogant queen - The world's economic and political system. She is loved by the kings of the earth (Rev.18:19).

A pure bride - This is the church which will be married to the bridegroom, Christ. It consists of all believers saved from Pentecost to the rapture. See 2 Corinthians 11:2, Ephesians 5:23-32.

A mighty warrior from heaven - This is the Lord Jesus Christ himself.
