The real score on music piracy
Most companies are usually hesitant to hire fresh graduates,
preferring to hire experienced workers instead who can work
"with minimal supervision." If you're one of the new
graduates, here are some timely tips on how you can present
yourself in a positive light and, this early, to enhance your
skills for the future. As that popular Star Wars line goes:
May the force be with you!
1. Sell yourself. Highlight your strong points in your resume
and during your interview. Mention seminars or training that
reflect on your skills and how a good team player you are.
2. Learn good communication skills. Treat your interviewer
as your first potential customer and yourself as the product
you are selling.
3. Be prepared. Try to know as much as you can about the employer
you are applying with. Scan the newspapers especially the business
section for the latest info. Surf the Internet for their web
site.
4. Be flexible. Show in your resume or mention during the interview
that you can work with different kinds of people as most companies
prefer those who can easily adjust or adapt to different situations.
5. Know what motivates you. Ask
yourself: What motivates me to do my best? Is it money? Is it
because I want to put my talents into good use? Do I want this
job because I want to help others?
6. Never stop learning new skills. This will always put you
ahead of the rest of the pack. Even if you aren't looking for
a job at the moment, you should always build up and enhance
your skills for the future.
