Horns to the Matador is a rock band from Wheeling WV.
Arising from the artistic wasteland left behind after the breakup of
Five Minute Conspiracy, and enduring some member changes and name changes, "The Horns" have proven themselves to be a guiding light and force-to-be-reckoned-with in the simmering Wheeling scene!!
Rock-critic Mikey Iafrate puts it best: "Everyone was pissed when Five Minute broke up. They had just put out a great record [No Mercy In Texas] and their Wheeling fanbase had never been stronger. It was looking like they might do something really cool.
"So when the news came out that they were more-or-less reforming woth different songs and a new name, shit, I for one was excited."
Playing a handful of shows under the intriguing name The Brannock Device (inspired by those weird foot-measuring devices in your local shoestore), the boys had proven that they were back, and they meant business.
Two big changes were on the way, however, before they would settle down into the familiar lineup they boast today. First, the band decided to add Clint Sutton on guitar, who had played drums for the influential, albeit short-lived Wheeling band Hawthorne. Clint, who, in drummer Dave Klug's words plays a mean "anal retentive guitar," took over frontman Sean Decker's guitar work, leaving Sean free to pitch the woo and shimmy around the stage with moves that recall Patti Smith or Michael Stipe. Rounding out the lineup, of course, are Chris Klug on guitar and Nate Musser on bass and backing vocals.
Now, with a new lineup, and the new name Horns to the Matador, the guys have been ripping shit up all over, playing with such cool bands as Killed At Camp, Error Type:11, The Party of Helicopters, Burning Airlines, Pankration, The Movielife, Kill Your Idols, The New Terror Class, and GOD! too many more to mention.
Horns has just released a KILLER 7-track CD entitled We Own This Town, Johnny! and toured with Killed At Camp in support of that disc. It is "coal miner" rock at its finest.
