BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA

Wow, what a stinker. I don't know who would fine this movie enjoyable.
We're treated to shots of some plants, and the narrator tells us it's the
jungle. A jungle with tigers, hyena, pythons, lions and buzzards (complete
with stock footage of each). Then we see a couple of Americans in tattered
clothes and beards. Some local tribesmen (who wear rugs as skirts,
but I think they are supposed to look like animal skins) find the two and
take them back to their village, where we meet the chief, his (supposedly)
cute princess daughter, and a birdman.
Then the men wake up. Oy. I wish they hadn't. Duke and
Sammy are a low grade carbon copy of Martin and Lewis, except without the
talent. I never got much enjoyment out of Jerry Lewis's wacky hysterics.
But this guy... oh, was it painful to watch him. The ridiculous screaming,
whining, and overexaggerated faces were enough to make me want to throw my
shoe through the TV. What's worse is I think the Dean Martin wannabe
has even less talent. After Sammy does a standup routine for the locals
(barf), Duke gets up in front of the crowd, his pants hiked up to his nipples,
and a hawaiian shirt tied in a knot, exposing his hairy stomach. He's
going to sing a song, but he needs some music, right? So, he gets the
tribal drummers to beat on their congas. And then he belts out a horribly
written song while you can hear trumpets, a piano and bass!
Anyway, the guys want to get off the island and they enlist the help of the
scientist who lives in a castle on the other side of the island. Huh?
Dr. Zabor is played by Bela Lugosi, and is the only saving grace in this
movie. He's experimenting with evolution. Soon, his miracle drug
will be on the streets, where you can inject it into a chimp and the chimp
becomes a gorilla! Buy some stock in this guy! .... So, there's
some romance and some jealousy, and some monkeying around, not to mention
that annoying screaming lunatic who thinks he's funny. All in all,
it was really bad.
