BOO!
(1932)
Featuring clips of classic horror spliced together
Quick Rating : *
This is a short Universal film. Probably someone's editing project.
Take
clips from 3 films, edit together, using any and all tricks you might know,
and narrate some lame comedy schtick over it. That's pretty much what
"Boo"
is.
The narrator tells us about the cheapest form of amusement - nightmares.
Then, clips from Nosferatu, Frankenstein, and The Cat Creeps are spliced
together, and the dialogue is ridiculous. To show off the editing prowess
of the times, there are many instances of film played backward, or scenes
repeated, or scenes played backwards and forwards, repeatedly! Also,
the
sound editing allows someone to give their own roars to Frankenstein's
monster, or Nosferatu, or their victims. It's rather lame, but I could
see
little kids laughing at this in the 30s.
Some of the more memorable lines are "He'd better get away from the casket,
or he'll be coffin.", and "Why it's Dracula, the guy who invented necking."
The lines are delivered quickly and energetically. But the jokes are
old
and lame. It's funny to laugh at, not intentionally, but because it's
so
unfunny. If you want a piece of comedy gold, try this one to describe
a guy
who doesn't know where he wants to go - "He's like a female auto-mobile
driver!". Hey, at least it's only 10 minutes long.
