BUBBA HO-TEP
(2002)
Starring Bruce Campbell
& Ossie Davis

Elvis lives... in a nursing home!  Turns out, the King switched lives with
an Elvis impersonator, and after a mishap on stage, ended up in a coma and
woke up in a retirement home.  And he's got a problem - some sort of
pus-filled growth on his penis.  He dreams of the past while slowly fading
away.  Meanwhile, something strange is going on in the nursing home.
Residents are dying, and there are some large scarab beatles running around.
We're introduced to one of Elvis's friends, Jack (Ossie Davis), who believes
he is John F. Kennedy.  Yes, Ossie Davis is a black man - "they" dyed him
that color - what better way to cover it up?  Anyway, Jack uncovers some
clues about the strange happenings and deduces that there is an ancient soul
sucking mummy on the premises.  A good ol' boy mummy - or Bubba Ho-Tep, if
you will.  And he feeds off the souls of the living, which he can suck out
of any orafice (but I guess he prefers ass).  So now the elderly Presley and
Kennedy need to muster up the strength and determination of their youth to
put an end to this evil presence.

Great premise, and the jokes work, but there's not much extra to the story.
Campbell does a great job as Elvis, as does Davis as JFK.  There are some
great one-liners and funny situations, but the movie is kinda depressing at
times.  There is a real drama hidden behind the goofy premise, and they
don't really work together well.  But, it is entertaining, and it's not
entirely a B-movie, but it does have many B-movie elements.  If you'd like
to see an elderly Elvis fight off a giant beatle with a bedpan, then Bubba
Ho-Tep is for you!
