CABIN
FEVER
(2003)

Five college friends
rent out a cabin in the woods for a week. The plan is
simple - drinking drugs
& sex. Sound familiar? Anyway, the group
encounters a seriously
diseased man who is just looking for help, but his
disgusting appearance
causes the kids to push him away. When he attempts to
take their truck, the
kids beat him and set him afire. In the process, the
truck (their only way
out) is trashed. And now, they're terrified that the
man's disease might
have been passed to them. And soon enough, it is.
I enjoyed this movie
a lot. It's nothing really new, but it seemed fresh.
The "horror" comes from
the disease itself - some sort of flesh eating
virus, which allows
the special effects guys to come up with some gross
rotting skin effects.
The big thing that stands out for me in this film is
that they're able to
include good (and bizarre) humor without compromising
the suspense.
There are some freaky redneck characters in this movie,
including the mulleted
kid Dennis, who you shouldn't sit next to. And
Winston, the young cop
always looking for a party. And "Grim" the skater
dude with a pocket full
of pot. There are some laugh out loud funny scenes,
but there are also some
truly scary and suspenseful sequences. This movie
held my interest the
whole way through. It's not a ground breaking movie,
or one that has an underlying
purpose or statement (at least that I could
notice), but it was
a fun, scary, interesting movie.
