COUNTESS
DRACULA
(1970)
Starring
Ingrid Pitt

A Hungarian count has
died, and his aged countess is angry and merciless.
When a servant girl's
blood accidentally spills on the Countess's face, she
noticed her skin became
younger. The next day, the servant girl is missing,
and the Countess appears
very young. So young, in fact, that she
impersonates her daughter
(whom she had kidnapped) so that she can gain a
larger portion of her
husband's estate. She begins a love affair with a
young soldier, son of
her husband's friend. To her horror, however, the
effects of the blood
wear off quickly, so she must kill again, and again.
This Hammer film is loosely
based on the "Blood Countess" Elisabeth Bathory,
who killed hundreds
of virgins to bath in their blood to keep her youthful.
Although in the film,
the countess becomes ridiculously younger, with the
body of a 19 year old
(va-va-va-voom!). And when it wears off, it wears off
quick - in an instant
she becomes a wrinkled old hag again. The scenery and
colors are decent, the
acting tolerable... well, except for the young love
interest. First
of all he wears a giant fuzzy hat. He has one of the
cheesiest moustaches
I've seen. And, at times he speaks with different
accents - I'm wasn't
sure if he was supposed to be Hungarian, French or
Scottish! The
story is somewhat interesting, and the pace is decent.
There's some blood and
some boobs, but overall it's just a mediocre horror
film.
