MOVIES DEAD BIRDS
Quick
Rating: ** We're in 1863 Alabama. A bunch of bank robbers are making their getaway and head for a deserted old farmhouse. What they find there is certainly more than they bargained for. The house is inhabited by some sort of darkness - spirits, monsters, death. And that's pretty much the whole story. I wasn't overly impressed with this movie. The beginning was very cool, but misleading. The robbery scene was super bloody, and I liked the idea of mixing the horror and western genres. However, as the movie played out, it became more slow and uninteresting. The look of film was great. It felt like the 1800s and the atmosphere of the Southern woods and the farmhouse were great. Even the monster effects weren't bad. The acting was decent - a bunch of no-names, but they pulled off their parts rather well. The problem was, there wasn't much to their parts. We never really get to know any of them. And with the anticipation of their gory demise, I was greatly disappointed. After the initial scene, there wasn't much gore to speak of. Many of the robbers' deaths even occurred offscreen! So, it was an interesting twist to mix horror and western, and you can tell that some effort definitely went into this film. For me, though, it just didn't deliver. Quality: 3.0 Visuals:
