MOVIES DEAD RINGERS
Quick Rating:
*** Elliot & Beverly Mantle are identical twins. They grew up as social outcasts and became very close to each other (and no one else). They both became expert gynecologists and have experienced much success. The brothers share everything (even lovers) and few can tell them apart. This all changes, however, once Beverly falls in love with one of their patients. As his feelings for her grow, he does not want to share with Elliot anymore. This separates the brothers - a new situation for both of them. And neither can really cope with it. The twins continue on a downward spiral, affecting their practice, their relationship and their health. This is one f'd up film. But I guess you could deduce that by seeing David Cronenberg's name as director. He directs this film almost detached from it and its characters. It's a very cold feeling, and makes the movie that much more creepier. Jeremy Irons does a phenomenal job as both brothers. His two performances are nuanced and intense. He really makes the film. The story is odd and difficult to get into, but it is interesting and will keep you thinking. Not much in the way of gore or suspence, but more of a cerebral horror. May require multiple viewings to get certain things straight. Quality: 7.5 Visuals:
