THE DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE
(1971)
Featuring a Nazi succubus

Ok, my version of this movie starts out with a recent looking (say, 90s)
video of naked women biting and bleeding.  There's a naked vampire, naked
winged girls, and naked cannibals.  What the hell is going on?  I thought
this movie was from 1971?  So, then voiceovers start telling me that this is
an intro to a movie by Redemption Video.  The movie is "The Devil's
Nightmare", but first I must sit through this very bizarre and
not-as-exciting-as-one-would-think intro where a half-naked woman is eating
flesh while a voice tells me the history of cannibal movies.  Huh?  After
this has all gone on for too long, the movie actually starts...

1945 Germany.  A German baronness dies during childbirth, between stock war
footage.  The baron father learns that it is a girl, and stabs the newborn
dead.  What a pleasant intro!  Then we come to present day (which is 1971),
and the baron discusses how his family is cursed.  (Meanwhile, he's living
in this huge castle - don't seem so cursed, do he?).  Thhen we meet 7 people
who have been randomly placed together on a bus (is this where the Real
World got it's idea?) - there's a greedy wealthy woman and her adulterous
husband.  An innocent and sweet blonde girl, a temptuous brown haired girl,
a fat slob, a constantly complaining old man, and a priest (or soon-to-be
priest).  Why they're all in a bus, and where they're going, I don't know,
or care.  They get lost, and ask a freaky looking skinny guy in a costume
who's burning wood in a field for directions.  He sends them to the baron's
castle.

So, the seven people get out of the bus, and head toward this castle.  The
door opens and no one is there to greet them.  Yet, all 7 walk right in like
they own the place and start looking around.  Finally two odd-looking
servants meet them, and they are shown to their rooms.  Each room has a
different horrible past, full of violence and murder.  But, all 7 find no
real problems with that, and actually enjoy their rooms.  The two hot girls
decide to share a room, and that can only lead to one thing.  A very drawn
out lesbian scene ensues, and it was a damn good scene for 1971!  It was
probably the best thing about this movie.  Anyway, the guests all come to
dinner and meet the baron, and he shares the story of his family's curse -
it seems that the oldest daughter of every generation turns out to be a
succubus.  And who should walk into the castle at this time, but a
beautiful, mysterious woman wearing a revealing black outfit.  Hmmm...  I
wonder if she could be a succubus??

Sooner or later, all 7 guests find out if she's a succubus or not - and most
of them find out the hard way.  If anyone can stop her, you'd think it'd be
the priest, wouldn't you?  Well, you'll have to watch to see if he does.

This was an interesting, but odd movie.  I enjoyed the ending, even if the
journey to get there was rather dull and unimagined.  The pace wasn't too
bad, and the lesbian encounter certainly helped - although it did lead me to
believe there would be more such scenes later on, only to be disappointed
with a couple of tame sexual meetings.  Not much in the way of gore, but
there were some unusual deaths.  Not particularly well acted, and the
English dubbing was distracting throughout.  I'd recommend this, but only to
hardcore fans of 70s horror.
