THE
DEVIL'S RAIN
(1975)
Starring
William Shatner, Ernest Borgnine,
Tom Skerritt,
and John Travolta

Seeing those actors in
one B-movie about satanists just sent my
heart-a-pumpin.
We're in rural southwestern America, and there's a group of
satanists headed by
Borgnine on the loose. They are after the Preston
brothers (Shatner and
Skerritt) because their ancestors betrayed Borgnine
and kept his demonic
book that has the names of satanists written in blood.
That's about as much
of the plot I got (or wanted to get). It was
entertaining enough
to watch Shatner in a vest and a wicker cowboy hat,
emoting like only he
can. And then to see Ernest Borgnine (who seemed to
really enjoy his role
in this film) wear clothes that were a little too
tight for his plump
frame, including his religious garb - a bright red robe.
He has a bunch of followers
who don't have eyes, including a young John
Travolta (in his first
movie role - a non-speaking cameo). Oh, and there's
a lot of melting.
Faces melting, hands melting, bodies melting. And
melting. And melting.
The scenes of melting go on for so long the audience
starts to melt.
So there's some good fun to be had laughing at this flick,
but there are definitely
some boring scenes. It's all worth it when you see
Borgnine with a goat
face! I was, however, disappointed in what the box
said was "absolutely
the most incredible ending of any motion picture ever!"
