ELEKTRA

Starring Jennifer Garner and Terence Stamp

Quick Rating:  **

Elektra is a comic book villain turned hero from the pages of Daredevil.  In the movie adaptation of Daredevil, Jennifer Garner portrayed this deadly assassin, and reprises the role in this starring performance.  We're told Elektra was brought back from the dead, and from there, we're assumed to believe all the black magic mumbo jumbo of Elektra and her allies and her enemies.  Some of the stuff is a little outlandish, even for a comic book movie.  Anyway, Elektra is given a job for an assassination, but ends up falling in love (I guess?) with the guy and his daughter.  She then turns to protect them.  It seems that the evil ninja organization called "The Hand" is after this father and daughter and now Elektra feels compelled to help them.

I don't know... I just couldn't get into this movie.  The plot was pretty formulaic, and there wasn't much to any of the characters.  The movie just doesn't go anywhere.  Is it a love story?  Is it a coming of age story?  action?  fantasy?  I've got no clue.  Garner does a good job, and it was good to see Terence Stamp ("General Zod" from Superman II) again.  But other than that the acting was mediocre.   What really turned me off was all the magical happenings.  These ninja evaporate once they're killed?  Characters can be brought back from death?  A dude can make his tattoes take life?  Some of the worst names I've ever heard - Stick, Stone, Tattoo?  ugh.  And, by the way, if you're going to call a character "Tattoo", he'd better be a tiny midget in a suit, yelling about "the plane".  In conclusion, this wasn't a horrible movie, but it was certainly run-of-the-mill.
