MOVIES THE
LORDS OF FLATBUSH
In their first
major movie roles, "Rocky" and "the Fonz" were Lords, a 50's gang of four
greasers in Brooklyn. There's not much of a story line - it seems
more like someone's memories of their youth. The carefree rebels
just want to have fun, but serious issues appear for each of the four.
Stanley's (Sly) girlfriend wants to get married, Chico falls for a "good
girl", Butchey (Winkler) gets hit by a car, and Wimpy suffers from a bad
nickname. The acting isn't terrible, but there isn't much to work
with. The dramatic scenes were drowned out by the pathetic soundtrack
of faux 50's songs. It's hard enough to understand what Stallone
is saying without loud be-bop in the "background". The movie isn't
without it's touching scenes, though - One that sticks out has Sly talking
to pigeons and then thinking he is flying over Tokyo. There won't
be a dry eye in the house after that emotional scene.
