THE
FLY II
(1989)
Starring
Eric Stoltz

A pointless film that
is not only worse than the original (much worse), but
it actually takes away
from it. The Geena Davis character is killed off in
the first scene, as
she gives birth to the fly's child. This son, Martin
(Stoltz), is then raised
by an evil corporation (is there any other kind?).
He is prodigious learner
and develops at an amazing rate. By the age of 5,
he is fully grown, and
as brilliant as his daddy was. Now this evil
corporation also has
the telepods from the first movie, except that they
can't get them to work.
They put a peaceful dog in one, only to get an evil
dog puppet out the other
end. So, they offer a job to Martin to finish his
father's project.
There's a tacked-on love interest, and the realization
that this corporation
is evil, and Martin's inevitable change into a fly
creature. Once
that happens, the movie turns into an Aliens rip off, where
nameless guards are
killed one by one.
This movie is poor.
The story is uninteresting, and the acting is bad. The
only thing going for
it is that there's some good gore scenes. A great
head-squashin' comes
to mind. But, the rest of the film is just
unnecessary. Case
in point - One quote referring to the Goldblum "Fly"
character from the first
movie - "He bugged me." Ouch.
