FRIDAY
THE 13TH PART 2
(1981)

More stalking and slashing
from Crystal Lake. The only survivor from the
first movie doesn't
survive long into the sequel, as Jason enacts his
revenge for his mother's
death. Fast forward 5 years, and a new camp is
opening up on Crystal
Lake, despite the doomsaying of the crazy old guy from
town (who finally gets
his in this movie). The horny counselors come and
are murdered one by
one by Jason Voorhees.
Jason starts his prolific
career as a killer in this film. Besides that,
it's all pretty similiar
to the first one. Except there's more killings,
less plot, and more
gore shots (but of lesser quality). The killer point of
view is used, as are
many of the horror film cliches that this series helped
make cliches.
The counselors are killed off frequently - We hardly even
learn their names before
they're offed - nevermind getting to know their
characters. While
the cast may not be memorable, some of the killing scenes
are - like the wheelchair-bound
lad bouncing down stairs with a machete
embedded in his head,
and the girl who gets an ice pick to the head, and the
girl under the bed who
pees herself. I liked that Jason was living in
dilapitated old shack
hidden in the woods, and I enjoyed his "temple" to his
mother. I didn't
like that we get to see Jason's face and that he looks
like a misshapen hillbilly
wearing overalls and a flannel shirt (not to
mention the potato sack
he wears on his head).
So, not much substance
here. Just lots of killing, and the set-up for the
continuing sequels in
the Friday the 13th series.
Lesson Learned:
If you want to let a girl know you're interested in her,
shoot her in the ass
with a sling shot, and then wink!
