FRIDAY
THE 13TH PART VI:
JASON
LIVES
(1986)

Tommy Jarvis is still
plaqued by the memories of Jason Voorhees. So, he and
a friend (Ron Palillo
- that's right, he's "Horshack" to you) decide to dig
up his grave and make
sure he's dead. Sounds like a good plan to me. So
they find his grave
and dig it up. Open up the coffin, and what do you see
...? Jason's
rotting corpse, complete with crawling worms. yummy. Then
Tommy gets upset and
rips an iron spear out of the cemetery fence (?) and
stabs Jason's body repeatedly
in the chest. Leaving the spear in his chest
wasn't the best idea,
as it has started raining, and lightning strikes,
sending tons of electricity
right into Mr. Voorhee's heart. And we all know
that lightning will
bring a corpse back to life! Jason awakens, offs
Horshack, and gets his
mask back (that was nice of Tommy to bring it for
him). Tommy quickly
escapes, and now Jason is on the warpath.
Of course this beginning
doesn't solve any of the questions we're left with
at the end of part V,
but I guess we shouldn't expect any continuity in this
series.
Tommy reports that Jason
is back to the local cops, who don't believe him,
and imprison him.
While trying to convince the police of their mistake, he
also has time to woo
the sheriff's daughter. Meanwhile, Jason is roaming
the woods killing anyone
in his way - camp counselors, paintballers, a
couple in love (can
you think of a more romantic place to propose than the
woods around Crystal
Lake?), and of course the drunk caretaker. Jason is
stronger now, and seemingly
unstoppable (it's amazing what a little
electricity will do
for you).
Tommy is able to escape
and gets help from Megan (the sheriff's daughter) to
put his plan into action
to get rid of Jason once and for all, by returning
him to his initial final
resting place. Jason has now made it to Camp
Crys... I mean Camp
Forest Green... and the counselors and children are in
danger. Tommy,
Megan, and the police dept will have their hands full trying
to stop this undead
killing machine.
Part VI introduces us
to zombie Jason. No longer a man or mutant, he is the
walking, stalking dead.
It's good to have him back after the boring part V,
but this installment
is all that good, either. They've attempted to put
humor into the movie,
and for the most part it doesn't work. The
tongue-in-cheek jokes
are all pretty bad, and the goofy characters are just
asking to get killed
(I guess that's the point). There are some interesting
kills - like Jason beheading
three people with one swing, or the
head-twist-off, or the
human pretzel - but the gore seems to have been
edited out for the most
part. Booo. But, it was entertaining, and this
Tommy Jarvis was better
than the last one. And CJ Graham does a good job as
Jason.
