GALAXY OF TERROR
(1981)
Starring Erin Moran, Robert England & Sid Haig
Quick Rating: **
Ok. I guess they made quite a few movies after "Alien" that feature
futuristic space travellers coming in contact with vicious alien species
and are killed one by one. This is one of the low budget ones.
The master of some planet (he's the guy with the red light for a face) orders
a ship and its crew on a rescue mission. This ragtag bunch includes
Erin Moran (after she was Joanie on Happy Days), Robert Englund (before he
was Freddy Kruger) and Sid Haig. The ship crash lands on this dark
world, and the crew investigate the surface.
They come across a giant pyramid and decide to climb and enter it.
Apparently this pyramid is home to worm creatures, bloodsuckers and who knows
what else. And one by one, our courageous explorers bite the bullet.
Is some alien race trying to kill them? Are they being set up?
Is this all just in their heads?
The special effects and gore effects are pretty lame. But what they
lack in quality, they make up for in quantity. There's a lot of blood,
plus guts and brains, amputations and puke. Not to mention a rape scene
involving a gigantic slimy maggot and a worm-phobic, big breasted shipmate.
There is evidence of its lack of budget everywhere in the movie. From
the poor acting, laughable computer displays, and reuse of many sets to the
obvious over-dubbing of lines (in some cases, the actors aren't even moving
their mouth in the scene, but there is audio of them talking!), to the obviously
painted backgrounds. Highlights include Joanie's face blowing up, the
aforementioned maggot rapist, and two young Freddy Krugers fighting each
other. Just don't ask what happened to his character in this movie.
It's one of life's greatest mysteries!
