GINGER SNAPS
(2000)
Featuring a teenage female werewolf
Quick
Rating: ***
Two
sisters in high school are morbidly obsessed with death, and they stand out
as freaks at school. The girls stick up for each other and are always
there for each other. Then one night, in their suburban neighborhood,
while attempting to pull a prank on a fellow student, one of the girls is
attacked by a large animal.
Ginger (the one attacked) slowly changes and at first thinks its her period,
but then realizes it is lycanthropy - she was attacked by a werewolf!
She starts looking and acting strangely, causing problems at school, at home,
and most of all with her sister.
This is a great little addition to the werewolf genre, with the adolescent
girl's point of view. There's plenty of gore, and some strong acting
performances. The story's not perfect, but who really cares?
This was an enjoyable horror flick. All of the effects were practical
- no CG, which was refreshing, even if thee wolf looked a little strange.
