GINGER SNAPS 2 : UNLEASHED
(2003)
Featuring another teenage female werewolf

Quick Rating:  ***

A dark sequel to the refreshing werewolf flick Ginger Snaps.  Bridgitte is alone, fighting the curse she injected herself with, dealing with the loss of her sister, and cutting herself just to see how fast it heals.  And each cut is healing faster than the previous.  The curse is slowly getting stronger in her system.  After an attack by another wolf, B is found head first in the snow and brought to a rehab clinic for girls.  She's locked behind doors without her antedote.  And the curse is becoming worse.

Eventually, with the help of an add little girl named Ghost, B escapes the clinic.  They travel back to Ghost's house where her grandmother was burned.  The wolf is after Bridgitte and will no doubt find them there...  As will the people at the clinic...  And secrets will be revealed...  And violence will occur.

There is a dark brooding mood to this film, and I think it's great.  Emily Perkins does a fantastic job again as Bridgitte.  She is depressed, devastated, strong, and sarcastic.  Her performance really gives this film its weight.  The practical effects are pretty good - never is too much shown, but it is scary nonetheless.  Plenty of blood in the sequel.  I was particularly impressed with the intro to the film, which featured intense images of Bridgitte dealing with her curse while audio clips from the first film played.

A worthwhile effort to follow up a film that many would believe could not be followed.
