HILLS HAVE EYES
(1977)
Written
& Directed by Wes Craven
Starring
Michael Berryman

A travelling family is
on their way to California and decide to take a
detour somewhere in
the southwest to look for a silver mine. They end up
way off the beaten path,
and when their car crashes and breaks an axle, they
are stranded in the
desert. Surrounded by rocky hills and not much else,
the men split up and
look for help on foot. Unfortunately help does not
find them. Instead,
an inbred cannibalistic family who live in the hills
have noticed them.
And boy are they hungry.
There's not much to the
plot of this Wes Craven flick. The family gets
stuck, and the cannibals
come after them. And then the family strikes back.
The acting is decent,
except for the non-stop screaming of one character.
Of course you can't
complain about the unique looking Michael Berryman. I
was disappointed in
the film because I think it has been built up over the
years, and I was expecting
much more gore. There's hardly any. There is
some suspence and tension,
but there are some cheesy scenes (or maybe it's
just because it was
the 70s and everything was cheesy) that break up the
tension. It could
have been much creepier and scarier than it was. But
still an interesting
watch.
