THE HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK
(1980)
Quick
Rating: *
Ugh. In the vain of Last House on the Left (and actually starring the
guy who played "Krug" in that movie!) comes The House on the Edge of the
Park. Catchy title. So, we have a sadistic psycho grease monkey
named Alex who likes to rape women. He's joined by his sidekick Ricky
who looks like a retarded Peyton Manning. The boys are about to "boogie"
the night away when a couple of wealthy socialites stop in the garage to
fix their car. Alex doesn't want to do it, but he and Ricky end up
fixing the car and accepting an invitation to the socialite's party.
So these two hoodlums show up at the fancy house out in New Jersey somewhere,
where all sorts of early 80s high society stereotypes are hanging out.
The party quickly turns ugly as the rich folk mock the not-so-bright Ricky,
and take all his money in some poker games. Then things get uglier
as Alex has had enough and turns to violence and torture and rape, which
was probably his intentions from the start. How 2 guys keep 5 people
hostages for so long with nothing more than a straight razor, I'll never
know. Anyway, push comes to shove, and the party gets even uglier.
A pointless film, and not well done. The acting is ok, but the plot
is ridiculous (especially the ending) and it's just uninteresting and slow.
Yeah, there's some torture scenes, and plenty of nudity and rape... but there's
no real weight to it. I don't know... it just didn't do much for me.
