THE INVISIBLE MAN RETURNS
(1940)
Starring
Vincent Price

Quick Rating:  ***

An interesting sequel to "The Invisible Man" finds a young man, Geoffrey Radcliffe (Price) about to hang for his brother's murder.  It is a crime that he did not commit, and his fiance and Dr. Frank Griffin (brother to the Jack Griffin in the original movie) have a secret plan to help him escape.

Invisibility.  Price escapes and strives to determine who killed his brother and set him up.  Meanwhile Griffin attempts to devise an antidote for the invisibility so that Price doesn't suffer with the insanity side effect of the serum.

It's a pretty good story, and they add some invisibility humor, but it doesn't have the presence or artistic flair of the original.  The acting is good.  Vincent Price's distinctive voice (although not as distinctive as when he was older) carries his character even though he's not even seen until the end of the movie.  The special effects are top notch... Especially the scenes where the invisible man is caught in smoke - very impressive.  Even today.  Overall, it's a good flick, although not as good as the original.
