THE INVISIBLE MAN'S REVENGE
(1944)
Starring John Carradine

Quick Rating:  **

For the final film in Universal's Invisible Man series, they return to the horror genre.  Well, it's almost more of a revenge flick, but there are horror elements.  Robert Griffin (apparently no relation to the Griffin's in previous Invisible Man movies) was left for dead in Africa during a safari with friends.  His friends went on to discover a diamond mine and become rich.  Not only did Griffin lose out on his fortune, but he ended up losing his mind (and his memory).  He escapes from a mental institution in Capetown and comes to London to visit his so-called friends.

He is not warmly received, and soon the constable forces him out of town.  Seeking shelter, Griffin stumbles upon a scientist's house.  The scientist has discovered the secret of invisibility and has a bunch of invisible pets to prove it!  And now he seeks a human victim.  How fortunate that Griffin shows up at his door.  Griffin wants the power of invisibility to exact revenge, and agrees to the experiment.  It works, and Griffin is out for his vengeance.

This film had a better feel to it than the last couple, but it was sloppily done.  The plot is thin and somewhat pointless.  Some of the invisibility effects are good, but others are really bad.  There were many visible strings for a few of the gags.  Carradine is good as the scientist, but doesn't have much screen time.  Overall, it's an ok movie, certainly nothing to seek out.
