JEEPERS CREEPERS
(2001)

Quick Rating:  ***

This movie started out fantastic.  A brother and sister are driving home from college for Spring Break.  The usual brother-sister banter ensues as they drive down a lonely highway (in Texas?) in the middle of nowhere.  Then they encounter a a big rusty ol' truck with a maniac driver who almost runs them off the road.  After being startled by the driver, they continue on, but then see the truck parked next to an old boarded up building.  And the driver is dumping what looks like bodies down a hole into the ground.  The driver sees them and chases them.  The siblings survive, and then decide to check out what is going on in that hole.

I don't want to give away too much.  But the first half of the film had a great tension and suspence.  We don't know what's going on, but we're scared.  As more and more is revealed about this "killer", I think the film loses some steam.  The movie ends up being an introduction to yet another invulnerable inhuman monster.  And the monster himself is kinda cool... the film just has a different mood once you realize it's a monster and not a serial killer.  Still, it has some scares, and some gore, and has spawned one sequel so far.  Worth watching.
