LEGEND
OF THE CHUPACABRA
(2000)

"In 1997, three cryptozoology
students ventured into Santa Maria, TX to make
a documentary...
A year later they finished it." That's the tagline for
this borefest from Troma.
A parody of Blair Witch that incorporates the
latin american myth
of the Chupacabra, Legend is a faux documentary where a
few "students" hunt
down the goat killing beast. It doesn't take too long
for them to find the
Chupacabra, and then the rest of the movie is spent
with the students chasing
the beast and getting attacked by it. The
production values are
cheap, cheap, cheap. The acting is so wooden, I would
expect better line-reading
from a 2nd grade Christmas pageant. There is
some gore, as the Chupacabra
claims some victims, but it's cheesily done,
and since the whole
tone of the movie is laughable, it has no shock value.
The students eventually
kill the beast, and then we get a ten minute autopsy
so that the special
effects people can show off their rubber Chupacabra suit
in great detail.
A poor movie from start to finish, but with some gore and
a cheesy costume it
might keep you B-movie fans slightly entertained.
slightly.
