Quick Rating: ****

An alien invasion movie with tons of laughs, brought to us by the mind of Tim Burton.  This movie is based on the old trading cards and the sci-fi alien movies of the 50s.  There are some great parallels drawn between this and the movies of old.  I love the characters, which are numerous, and all of which get some screen time to tell their individual stories.  And there's so many stars!  And it's just a cheesy alien movie!  What's not to love?

The Martians have come to Earth, and the President (Nicholson, in one of two roles) listens to his professor (does every President get one of those), played by Pierce Brosnan, and attempts a peaceful greeting of the visitors.  The greeting turns into a disaster when the little guys with the big brains obliterate everyone!  It's very funny how everyone wants to believe that there can be a peaceful end to this conflict, except the Martians who only want war.  The exact opposite of these types of movies from the 50s & 60s.

The Martians are goofy, yet devious, and while their computer animation has aged, it fits the style of the film.  I love their expressions.  But, they always seem to be running around in their underwear - not sure if I need that!  There are plenty of laughs throughout the film, and it never seems to stop.  There's no wasted time - either there's some character development, some laughs, or some annihilation.  And there's Tom Jones!  a great sci-fi comedy romp with plenty of action and plenty of laughs!  You must watch Mars Attacks!
