MOVIES THE MUMMY'S CURSE
Quick Rating:
** This is the fifth Mummy movie from Universal, and the series has gotten dry. The same old formula applies to this film as all the others. Changing of the guard for the High Priest, Kharis was thought dead, but comes back to life, He is after Ananka, People in the way get killed, The new high priest gets attracted to a woman, the mummy is his downfall. It's such old hat at this point. Continuity? Who needs that? In the last film (Ghost), Kharis and the girl sink into a swamp in New England. In this movie, they're in a Cajun swamp. That's right, we's in cajun country! And the accents are horrible' ! We're informed that the mummy & the girl went into the swamp 25 years prior. Now, since these films are supposedly tied together, with the same mummy, we can go back to The Mummy's Hand which takes place in 1940. Then, The Mummy's Tomb takes place 30 years later. The Mummy's Ghost is after that, and now this movie is 25 years after that. At the very least, the events in this film take place in 1995! The one advance that this movie provided us in the Mummy series? A possible victim actually runs away from the gimpy mummy, instead of standing still, or passing out, or trying to hit him with a chair. The rest of this is very cookie cutter, and not very good quality. The mummy looks alright, and some of the sets are decent, and it's a quick movie. Other than that, the acting is poor, the story is stale and ridiculous. Just not a good product. Oh well, at least they knew to end the series after this one. Quality: 2.5 Visuals:
