MOVIES THE MUMMY'S TOMB ![]()
Quick Rating:
*** Steve Banning, lead archaeologist from the Mummy's Hand, returns in this film, the 3rd of Universal's Mummy movies. It's now 30 years after the events of "Hand" and Steve is living in New England, and tells the story of Ananka's tomb to his family. We are treated to a 10-minute recap of the Mummy's Hand, including tons of footage. Finally, we get into the story of this film, thin as it may be. Turns out, the Mummy wasn't killed in the last movie - just seared. And the High Priest of Karnak was not killed either - just injured. He is near death now, and passes on what he knows to a new High Priest. And he makes this newcomer vow to get revenge on Banning by killing him and all his relatives. So, off they go (the new High Priest and Kharis the Mummy) to America. Specifically, to Mapleton Massachusetts (home of the Bannings), and the murders begin. Soon this quiet New England town is overrun with doctors, detectives and reporters, attempting to find out who is responsible for the bizarre killings. <SPOILERS AHEAD> They soon determine that it's a 3000 year old living mummy and his keeper (who might have been successful if he didn't all-of-the-sudden fall in emotionless love (the only way I could tell was that they flashed images of the girl around his face - OH, he must LOVE her!) with Banning's son's fiance. All's well that ends well with the High Priest being shot, and the Mummy burning down with the Banning's house. <END SPOILERS> It's a very cookie-cutter story, with nothing out of the ordinary. But the creepy Universal horror atmosphere is present, and the actors all do a decent job. I debated giving this 2 or 3 stars, and 3 slightly won out. It's not bad, but nothing special, either. Just a mummy movie. Quality: 4.5 Visuals:
