THE OMEN
(1976)
Starring Gregory Peck

Quick Rating:  ****

On the heels of "The Exorcist" came "The Omen".  In this story, a mysterious pregnancy results in the American embassador to Great Britain (Peck) having a healthy baby boy.  But then, at the age of 6, this boy, Damien, is apparantly not that normal.  There is his strange hatred of churches.  The death of his nanny.  The sudden appearance of a new nanny.  A black dog that comes from nowhere to watch over the child.  And much more.  This slowly drives his mother insane.   And his father (the embassador) is confronted by a priest who tells him his child is the Anti-Christ.

The story is well told, and nicely paced.  The actors do a great job playing this sometimes silly context with seriousness.  There are definitely a few shocks and scares left in this 70's classic, and it is well worth a view by today's audiences.
