ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA III
(1993)

Starring Jet Li

The third installment of the series that launched Jet Li's career find Li
reprising his role of Wong Fei-Hung, this time visiting his father in
Peking, accompanied by Foon and Yee.  At the same time, the Empress is
sponsoring a Lion King competition, which the local clans want to win at any
cost.  One clan, and its best martial artist, Thunderfoot, are pressuring
the others to refrain from entering the contest.  Fei-Hung must fight for
what is right, and he must also keep an eye on his secret love, Cousin Yee.
She wants to get married, but she has also caught the eye of a Russian
diplomat, who may not be all that he seems.  And of course, fighting ensues.

The kung fu is great at some points and humorous at others.  There are many
gravity-defying acts throughout, but most are ridiculous.  The acting and
action are alright.  Like the second, this third installment is just not as
good as the original.  I would only recommend to fans of the first two.
