RE-ANIMATOR
(1985)
Starring Jeffrey Combs
Directed by Stuart Gorden
Quick Rating: ***
Herbert West, a medical student who experimented with death in Switzerland,
has now come to the US. Immediately he ruffles the feathers of the
medical professor Dr. Hill and the dean, who's the father of his roommate's
fiancé. Anyway, West continues his experiments, and after reanimating
his roommate Dan's cat (twice), Dan decides to help him. They attempt
to reanimate a human, with mixed results. a) it worked, and b) the
newly undead man is a feral killer. The situation gets more intense
as the Dean hunts down the two students, Dr. Hill gets even, and people end
up dead. And dead people end up living.
Well, I had heard things about this on the internet for a while, and finally
checked it out. It wasn't as good as I had hoped, but it is still entertaining.
There's a good amount of gore, and of nudity, and of camp. The acting
isn't so great, but it adds to the campiness of the entire plot. There
are scenes that make you cringe, ones that make you laugh, and ones that
make you puke. I especially like the decimated cat being re-reanimated,
the attacking intestines, and the disembodied head cunnilingus scene.
