Two guys wake up.  They are in a disgusting, dilapitated bathroom.  They are on opposite corners of the room, each chained to a large pipe by their ankles.  There is a dead man laying in a pool of blood, grasping a tape recorder in one hand and the gun that blew out his brains in the other.

The two men are part of a sadistic game.  A game at the hands of a killer.  Well, technically, he's not a killer.  He just puts people in a situation where they will kill themselves or someone else while attempting to escape.

I will certainly not try to give away too much of the plot.  But it is a sick film, and the first half is very intriguing.  You struggle along with the two guys as they try to figure a way out of their chains.  There are clues they discover that get them a little closer.  There are rules they can play by in order to get out.  It's the ultimate mind-fuck.

I really really enjoyed the first half.  The scenario itself was fascinating.  You feel their desperation.  And then as we learn some of the backstory and see some of the other sadistic games this killer has played.  There are some truly creepy parts too.  The poor girl in her bedroom at night.  My heart was pounding for her.

The second half of the film... well, it wasn't bad.  I did like the very end of it.  But as we "discover" the killer, and the big chase/fight scene... I don't know, it just took away from the rest of the film.  I also thought there was gratuitous use of off-speed filming.  The slow motion - fast action camera tricks really bugged me.  And there was scenes that were too much style over substance.  At times, it tried desperately to be Se7en.  It does stand on its own, out of Se7en's shadow.  I just wasn't buying into the whole setup near the end, and the "i'm dead - no i'm not" ending so cliche to horror movies.  But, overall, it's definitely worth a watch or two for all my fellow sicko's out there.
