Quick Rating:  ***

The fifth installment of the Child's Play series focuses on an orphan living doll, who is obviously the child of Chucky and Tiffany, who we last saw in "Bride of Chucky".  The puppet (Billy Boyd) resembles Ziggy Stardust (the reason why will become apparent as the movie plays out), and is calling Shitface, working as a ventriloquist's dummy.  That is, until he sees Chucky and Tiffany on TV.  Well, not the real Chucky and Tiffany (well, maybe the real Chucky and Tiffany... that leads to a confusing plot point...)  anyway, they are Hollywood props, used in a movie "Chucky Goes Psycho", based on the unsolved murders actually committed by the dolls.  There are a lot of in-jokes, most of which have Jennifer Tilly as the punchline.  But she handles it well - she's the real star of this movie (and the movie made in the movie).  Once Shitface finds his "parents" and wakes them from their inanimate state, Jennifer's world is turned upside down.  Her attempt to sleep with "rapper/director" Redman creates an opportunity that the killing doll family can't pass up.

This movie is more of a comedy than a horror film, but it works.  I enjoyed the movie.  Light entertainment.  That is, if you can take the gore.  Some great kill effects - fire, acid, guts, decapitation... ahhh...  There's also some great movie references in there...  Psycho, Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, even an Ed Wood reference - gotta love that.  And the squabbling between Chucky and Tiffany is great.  Oh, and if you're squeemish at the sight of doll nudity, you may want to skip some scenes.  This movie was a great distraction, and proves there's hope for this series yet...
