A motherless family in
rural Pennsylvania discover gigantic crop circles in
their corn fields.
Are these circles hoaxes, or the real deal? Is the
world ready for extra-terrestrials?
Or is it all just a prank from the
minds of dateless nerds?
We're kept in the dark as much as the family. We
learn what they learn,
and feel what they feel. Slowly, we also learn their
backstory, through flashbacks.
The suspense of this film will keep you
enthralled until the
very end, which comes and goes quickly, and leaves you
wanting more.
M. Night does a great job, and the film looks gorgeous. I
especially like how
the "sightings" are blurred, whether from bad
camcorders, reflections,
or looking through glass. The acting is superb
(yes, even the little
kids! everyone except M. Night himself - no need for
such a big role for
him). The tension rises throughout the film, and we
are trapped along with
the family. Most of whatever action there is,
doesn't even happen
on screen. And this raises the tension even more. A
very cool movie that
makes you think and keeps you riveted. My only
complaint might be that
the ending was quick, and felt a little contrived.
