MOVIES SON OF DRACULA
Quick Rating: *** The second sequel to Dracula really has no ties to the original two, except in name. But it's really not a bad thing. Count Alucard is expected as a guest in some southern plantation. When the train arrives, it only has his baggage. As we quickly learn, Alucard is a vampire, and he sleeps in his coffin, and only comes out at night, and feasts upon the blood of the living. Now that we've got that out of the way - what is he doing in America? The questions slowly become answered, and Alucard's identity as a descendant of Dracula come out. He's after the blood of a younger, more virule race, and is using the love of a woman, interested in the morbid and supernatural, to get it. There are definitely some holes, and it's not as good as the original, but it is well done and entertaining. Chaney is a little too "American" for the role of the Romanian vampire, and he can't hold a candle to Lugosi, but the rest of the cast does a good job. We're also treated to some state of the art special effects for a vampire movie. The bat effects have improved. We also get the first on-screen transformations from bat to vampire, and from mist to vampire. Both well done for the day. So, overall, I'd say it's a good horror flick... certainly not as great as "Dracula" but much better than "House of Dracula" Quality: 5.5 Visuals:
