THE
TROUBLE WITH HARRY
(1955)
Directed
by Alfred Hitchcock
Starring
John Forsythe, Shirley MacLaine & Jerry Mathers

A boy playing in the
woods hears three gunshots and then discovers a
dead body. An
older man, who was hunting game, stumbles onto the body
and realizes he shot
him (by mistake of course - he thought he was a
rabbit!). So,
the man tries to hide the body, but apparently this
stretch of wilderness
is a very popular spot, as a number of people
wander into that area
and see the body before he can hide it. As the
story develops, there
are more and more people from this small town who
think they may have
been involved in the murder of this man. And they
team together to do
the right thing, or to do what's best for them, with
many complications along
the way.
This is a black comedy,
but honestly, I didn't find it very funny.
There were some interesting
situations, and it was comical at times, but
a lot of the one-liners
seemed forced. And a lot of the circumstances
are far-fetched.
But, the acting is great, as is the direction. I like
the shot of the kid
looking at the body, with the man's feet in the
foreground. The
music was good, the suspence (when there was some) was
good. And the
location (when not a set) was beautiful. Autumn in New
England. Certainly
not Hitchcock at his best, but a good film,
nonetheless.
Did you Know: This is
Shirley MacLaine's first film.
