Quick Rating:  ***

A very cool-looking action/horror hybrid involving werewolves and vampires.  The vampires and Lycans (werewolves) have been feuding for almost 1000 years, and their weapons technology has been increasing rapidly as of late (UV bullets to kill vampires, silver-nitrates bullets to kill Lycans, etc).  The vampires think they have beaten the Lycans almost to the point of extinction, but they are wrong.  Lucian, the thought-dead Lycan leader, has a plan up his sleeve, and it involves a particular human.  The vampire Selene (Beckinsale) stumbles upon their plot and falls in love with the human.  This causes problems in the vampire clan (well, that, and her disdain for the interim leader), and....   well, I don't want to ruin it for you.

This movie looks great.  There's a lot of style, some Matrix-esque type manuvers, and of course werewolf transformations and vampire bitings.  The blue/black tinge of the film fits it well.  I liked the rich, Gothic style of the vampires contrasted with the trashy sewer headquarters of the Lycans.  There's a lot to keep you interested... even the story isn't too bad.   But there's no real soul to the picture.  The "love" story is not very believable, and some of the acting is pretty wooden.  But I still enjoyed the movie - plenty of gunplay, swordplay, scratching and biting... plus some cool cinematography and set designs.
