THE VAMPIRE LOVERS
(1970)
Starring Ingrid Pitt & Peter Cushing

This envelope-pushing Hammer horror film features a female vampire (Pitt)
who befriends young girls (and then seduces and vampirizes them).  She is
invited to stay with a general (Cushing) and his niece, who soon gets
"sick".  The young girl has horrible nightmares, and gets paler by the day.
Then upon her death, they discover fang marks on her breast.  And her new
friend is nowhere to be found!  On to the next family - another young girl
befriended and seduced.  More deaths lead the townsfolk to investigate, and
it's up to them to stop the vampire from killing again.

I was surprised by the sexuality, nudity, and lesbian scenes from a 1970
film.  This must have really shocked audiences of the time.  There were not
a ton of these scenes, but enough to keep it interesting.  The movie itself
is well done, but the pace is slow in many parts, and the story is not
explained entirely.  Who was that vampire pilgrim guy riding a horse,
pimping out Ingrid Pitt?  A decent release from Hammer studios, but
certainly not one of their best.
