THE VAN
(1977)
Starring: Danny DeVito

Here we have a B-movie straight outta the 70s, where a freckled goofball
saves up and buys a van so that all the girls will love him.  And who
wouldn't love a bright yellow van with a waterbed in back?  All Bobby has to
do is ask women to share a joint with him and they're his!  Well, that, and
wear those cool t-shirts with van iron-ons.  Of course, it may be hard for
him to keep up with the payments, since he only works in a car wash.  And
then, who would think that he'd fall in love?  Oh, what a crazy world this
Bobby lives in.

The movie is generally pretty bad.  It's a funny look back at when custom
vans were kings of the road.  And it's also fun to see a (somewhat) young
Danny DeVito, as Bobby's boss at the car wash (and a bookie on the side).
The first scene we see with DeVito has him stuck in a car (?) - but no
worries - it's nothing a pin to his ass won't fix!  But the real star of the
film is the van.  Complete with a waterbed, shag carpets, mirrored ceiling,
a fridge, a CB, a TV, a toaster, an 8-track and a closet!  What more could
you ask for?

The story is pretty lame, as is the editting and acting.  But there is a
hokey 70's soundtrack, and drag-racing, oh, and practical jokes, and adding
some naked women doesn't hurt.  And there's some memorable lines, like Bobby
singing "Ain't a woman around, who don't love the sound, of a zipper comin'
down!", or Dugan saying "Nobody calls Dugan a turd!"
