VERTIGO
(1958)

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
Starring James Stewart

A fantastic film from Mr. Hitchcock about a police detective (Stewart) who
suffers from severe acrophobia and is forced to retire.  Scotty is trying to
ease into retirement and is determined to beat his fear.  However, an old
friend seduces him into another job as a detective.  This friend's wife has
been acting mysteriously.  Moving, walking, acting, talking like someone
else.  Someone dead.  She visits flower stores, graveyards, and art museums,
all related to a long dead relative, and then remembers nothing of it.
Scotty follows her day in and day out, trying to put the pieces together.
Then, one day, she throws herself into the San Francisco Bay, and Scotty is
the only one who can save her.  He does, and the two fall in love (yes, even
though she is married), and now Scotty is really involved in trying to help
Madeline from following through with what her dreams tell her to do...  take
her own life.

This is a classic film, and the story is great.  Full of twists and turns,
it keeps you very interested even though there isn't much dialogue or
action.  The expressions of the actors guides you through all of their
feelings.  The use of camera angles, color, symbolism, music ... it's all
great.  You should definitely catch this film if you never have!  It will
leave a mark on you.
