THE WASP WOMAN
(1959)
Directed by Roger Corman

This film starts out by showing us the exciting world of bee-keeping.  Boy,
do those bee-keepers lead extraordinary lives.  To watch a man in protective
gear slowly walking through the woods sends shivers of adrenaline through my
body.  And then, when he ever finds a wasp's nests!  I was on the edge of my
seat!  He talks to the wasps, easing their minds before he puts them to
sleep with a gas.  This doctor takes the wasps back to the hut where he does
his research.  You see, he extracts the royal jelly from a queen wasp, and
that jelly is like a fountain of youth, making his test dog a puppy.   But
the honey company boss is not too pleased with the doctor's work, and fires
him.

Meanwhile, the CEO of a giant cosmetic corporation is aging, and her
company's sales are down.  She turns to the recently fired doctor for a ray
of hope to save her company - and her aged appearance.  The doctor
illustrates how his jelly works.  He injects a guinea pig - and voila, it
turns into a white rat!  I guess we're supposed to believe that rats turn
into guinea pigs as they get older.  Anyway, she is amazed, and insists on
being the first human test subject.  The doctor agrees, and they begin
injections.  The process works, but slowly.  The impatient CEO starts
injecting herself more frequently.  The doctor discovers a drastic side
effect in one of his test kittens, but before he can tell her about it, he's
hit by a car and suffers brain damage (remember, this is a Corman movie!).
She takes more injections, and then turns into a wasp woman, complete with
wasp mask, furry gloves, and high heels!

This is a goofy B-movie with some decent acting.  The effects are anything
but special, but that gives it the necessary camp aspect that you need to
get through a movie like this.
