MOVIES WEREWOLF
OF LONDON
Starring: Henry Hull
Wilford Glendon, an English botanist, is in Tibet, searching for the rare Marifasa Lupina plant, which flowers under moonlight. Glendon pushes on, despite the local superstitions of the plant and its habitat, and does find the flower, but also finds a hairy man-like attacker. Back in London, Glendon is met by Dr. Yogami, a fellow botanist, who informs him of werewolves, and the power of the Marifasa flower to combat werewolfism. Glendon dismisses the stories as myth, until he notices changes in himself. His problems with his hairy alter ego are compounded by marriage problems and his wife's old flame. Can he control the werewolf, or will he kill the woman he loves? This film predates the
more popular "Wolfman", but isn't as good. The acting, story and
special effects are decent, but I could do without the comic relief - two
old fighting drunk women. Overall, an ok start to Universal's werewolf
films.
