WOLFSTEIN'S HHU GrrrRANT #6 Part 2" "WE ARE ALL DISTILLING MOLECULES OF TIME: Either, Birthing images that will either fade, crack, and, crumble, like the Undead on a confused junket to a tanning salon; Or, else: If We will wisely use our time to Purify and Refine Our Essence to "be strong enough to receive the WEIGHT OF GLORY", Then We will Know EVERNOW REMEMBRANCE by The ONLY BEING Capable of Holding Us and our temporal Treasures in the Eternal Ethers... "for everything else, there's INTER-NET!" ******************* Whether you care for this alliteration, or, not, and, considering the Membership in this crowd, I'm sure that an exhibition of VERY HAPPY TOOTHY GRINS is just 'round the corner; it is my considered opinion of long standing, that, we, in modern culture, are all VAMPIRES (to one degree or another) feeding upon the Life-blood of 'Significant Others'. By 'Significent Others' I refer to those Persons whose dreams either have enjoyed, or, are currently enjoying, the Reality of 'potential-fulfilled', or, "FAME"; meriting Our Affirmation, and, Appreciation. I am a great FAN of so many Venerable Souls, ARTISTS OF LIFE, who played out their Lives upon the canvas of History, that it would take several volumes to tell you who they were, and, why they hold importance in the Matrix of My Life... But, as I can only relate one branch of the FANG-MILY at a Time to you, I've chosen tonight's topic to be the incipient intertwining of MONSTERS And MUSIC. ********************** Popularity, hero-worship, and, other forms of admiration are best summed up in Ben Franklin's maxim: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." Just as you wouldn't buy a cheap imitation, don't make one of yourself, either! You want to be inspired to be the best that you can be, in order to give the most that you can give! For, REAL LIFE is not about 'the paycheck', no, LIFE is deeper than that; it's about the LOVE that transcends finite boundaries; "your's", "others'", or, "all of the above"; until the skin into which you 'shape-shift' is large enough to encompass the entire Universe! (Eat your heart out, MISTER BLOB... if you have one... Hey, you leave mine alone!!) ******************** There's an entire spectrum of choice and potential operating here, the two ends of the spectrum being: 1) Do we become trapped in replays of others dreams ('drunk on the smell of somebody else's cork", as TWAIN put it) ego-tripping on some fantasy, that relegates us to being merely 'legends in our own minds?', or, 2) Do we strive to take their Inspiration to a higher Level, to boldly forge a New Reality, which is beneficially profitable to all, on many levels, as a manifestation for our own inner-security and wealth? Do we mature to Birth LIFE-Giving Dreams for Ourselves, in LOVE'S Ever-Widening Circle, Human and DIVINE, which will give others Life-Berths for their dreams, and, for all those untold others? ************ We appreciate Genius of all sorts, and, those who embody that Revelatory Light, become significant to us; their lives and images become indelibly etched in the Heroic Composition upon which our Consciousness is focused for Growth. I'm reminded of the olde poem: "If, for want of a shoe a horse was lost... a rider was thrown... a battle was lost... a War was lost, etc. "If something as humble as a horse-shoe can change the course of the nations, and, surprisingly, affect the fate of the world, just think how much greater the absence, or, loss, of a person of True Heart, Genius, or, Unselfish Goodness affects this olde globe. The premise behind IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE is really neither as far-fetched, nor, as smaltzy, as it is often mocked, and, parodied, for being. While parody is not the sincerest form of flattery, it does, at least, keep the work which inspired it in the current thought awareness. ****************** To cite an example of MONSTER-ous Proportion: The usual 'take' on dear olde BELA LUGOSI'S undying influence, whether his charismatic intensity of Presence, or, his continuously re-cycled vocal style. Not excluding the possible importance of Polidori's VARNEY THE VAMPIRE penny-dreadful saga as a Renevant link of Timely Relevance, however, were it not for Myths of the Undead, Bram Stoker might ne'er have penned DRACULA. Were DRACULA left unwritten, would the film, NOSFERATU, have ever seen the light of day? Or, would LON CHANEY Sr. have created His Immortal Vampire Image in LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT? Would UNIVERSAL STUDIOS have been demoted to a floundering movie studio of lesser note, and, gone extinct shortly thereafter? For, bereft of the HORROR Genre so humbly begun in DRACULA, the possibility that UNIVERSAL could have gone belly-up, bankrupt and extinct (no theme parks, no movie empire, etc) was a dangerous potential. The absence of BELA LUGOSI'S unique talents and commanding presence as the VAMPIRE KING, which cycled the TALKIES' Birth of the HORROR Genre would have wreaked havoc. A rupture of sizable void in the public consciousness, where Epic Battles of GOOD Over evil are concerned, would have stood agape. Not to mention the staggering amounts of vocal imitators that have paid homage to Bela's vocal inflections for earning their own bread and butter! ************* Taking it to a Personal Level... I marvel at the seemingly insignificent, yet, unforgettable, instances of discovery that reached deeply within me to form and focus me from my awkward shyness of youth; of those persons and events, which inspired my evolvution, fashioning me into this Crazy Loon, which you see standing before you at this very hour. More often than not, I've been Blessed with a Life brimming with so much Love, Inspiration, and, JOY, that begs me to Love so foolishly, that, I am, in many ways, unable to account for how I've been guided into this present moment of my life. Mine has been a Life worth embracing fully, in part, THANKS to its viable penchant and potential to be a HORROR HOST Once Again, after a temporary 'layoff' of nearly a quarter of a century. Life is more SPIRIT than Spirit Gum... or, Nose Putty, or, even, Latex. Those physical ingredients serve me in ways of externalized shape-shifting, but, that is only one aspect of BEING. An important aspect, nonetheless, yielding merely one more enthralling pallette of shapes, colours and light, continuously brimming with possibility in every turn of this Kaleidiscope of Life. We, as HORROR HOSTS (re)create the unique slice of atmosphere easily recognizable and desirable for scary thrills and chills, which we then 'people' with character, in order to comment upon, in numerous ways, a message of amusement, enlightenment, education, and, entertainment, all the while working to deliver a scare to our audience. And, if we've invested our time well, the oddest of circumstances occurs- our audience 'falls in love' with us and become our fans. This reciprocal little miracle is the primary colour of community, and, hopefully, progress. Just as we were touched, and, forever changed, by the surviving recorded work and unique persons of KARLOFF, LUGOSI, CHANEY, LEE, CUSHING, PRICE, etc., we, too, have embodied another link in the process of the on-going Meditation on The Supernatural Nature of BEING. Certainly, it is a very human desire to attain the largest audience conceivable; the various media insure that potential, but, both quality and quantity of your 'product', and, as such, are critically indispensible. We stand, and, build, upon the shoulders of giants. And, we are just another Link in the Chain, with the paradoxical mixture of 'Temporary' and 'Permanent'. HORROR HOSTING keeps alive The Grand Tradition of Self-Inquiry, by acting as a catalyst to define, and, to refine one's life. HORROR HOSTS Keep the movies 'fresh and alive' by contributing their own perceptive light to those classics, via sparkling banter, supplying wit in abundant half-measure, and, relevant historical insight, encourages the viewer's active participation in the meditative process of The BEING/DOING Progression. ********************* And, I said that this little exposition about SIGNIFICANT OTHERS was about MONSTERS and, MUSIC... but, I feel as if I've gone on long enough for this RANT; I've no wish to test the limits of your Human Endurance, so, take a break, and, I'll wrap this up next week with the MUSIC Aspect....
